Purpose
The Parent2Parent Support Group provides a safe space for parents to share their experiences about their children with learning difficulties.
Meeting Agenda
- Time to share with other parents
- Information and resource sharing
- Brief presentation on different topics of interest chosen by the group
Meeting Norms
- Confidentiality - what is said in group, stays in group
- Multilingualism - if English is not your first language, sit next to someone that speaks your language. Sharing can be in English or Portuguese or the language of inclusion.
- Empathy – try to understand different perspectives, reserve judgment, and avoid blaming.
- Respectful Communication - use “I statements”, avoid using names of students, teachers or other parents.
- Attentive Listening -give the speaker your full attention (unless you are asking for language clarification)
